Pick Apart a Katana

I have simply created this from three items of wood. Due to it’s type you are able to put it to use to remove the Tsuba and Tsuka cease easy. The component has some rubber onto it. By doing this you do not harm your Tsuba.

I place the katana on a seat or desk, but with enough room under it going to the Mekugi from the Tsuka.
For removing the Mekugi, the Mekugi hammer is used by me, the tiny level is put on the Mekugi. With my rubber hammer i gently, but securely, hit on the Mekugi hammer’s top.
You have to watch away which way the Mekugi ‘re being removed by you’re, as tsuka have got one big conclusion and an inferior one. Hit on small one to get the large finish out of the Tsuka.

Keep the leading and underside Mekugi and each other different and put them so you know which one goes where. The openings for the Mekugi are not the same size and hence the Mekugi don’t nonrandom.

Place the handle of the “u” to the bench, and put the “u” within the Tsuba.
Contain the the katana firmly in your hands, utilizing a towel to prevent yourself.
In the top down:
The Mekugi, katana.

This is called the Mei, the initial Nihonto’s had a makers mark in the Nagako.
In this case 3/07.

Re-assembling the katana.

First you place the Habaki on the knife, than the Tsuba, one Seppa and also the other Seppa. Finally the Tsuka is put by you about the Nagako.
Than the Tsuka to tighten. You can achieve it by hitting on the rear of the Tsuka, until the pockets for the Mekugi have been in place.
Than set the Mekugi back in the places where they go. Use the Mekugi sort, if necessary, to secure them.

If you are done with the building, examine your katana. There should be no shake. Swing the a few times, without anybody being there. You’ll be able to clean and oil the katana if all-is well.

If you use your katana’s for cutting, verify this regularly. Change them for security in the event the Mekugi do not fit snugly.
